Kathak comes from the northern states of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, India. The style or Gharana of Kathak taught at TFA is from the lineage of Param Guru Pandit Birju Maharaj, who hails from the Lucknow Gharana lineage. 

Under the able guidance of Guru Birju Maharaj and his senior disciple, Guru Paramita Maitra, the Kathak department at TFA continues growing. The training we offer emphasis on precise footwork, chakkars, tukdas and the unique usage of the hands and wrists. Kathak students at TFA also receive many opportunities to perform with TFA, allowing them to grow with the artform.
